Camping Off The Grid With Laughlin007

I've been a full time RV'er since wireless internet became possible in 2004. I'm a snowbird.
I migrate from Arizona in the winter to camp spots I've found over the years in CA, NV, OR & WA state.
I mostly camp on BLM land but have camped on National forests and state parks as well as administered
by the Bureau of Reclamation. You can find maps of many of these places at BLM.GOV/MAPS.

I bought a Starlink mini in 2024 when they were $499. They're much less now but I considered it a bargain because
Starlink works anywhere. There were places I would have loved to camp on before I got Starlink but I needed the
internet and they had no cell service so they weren't suitable for me.
I'm not a person who follows the crowd. When I started, I registered my 1981 Foretravel motorhome in South Dakota
and got a mailing address. Then I went to Quartzsite, AZ and installed solar panels. Then I went down to Yuma
and bought a yellow lab pup who I named Nugget. My plan was to run my web hosting business and prospect for gold
with a metal detector. I had been working 12 to 14 hours a day on the computer and what I needed more than anything
was fresh air and exercise. Most of the gold districts in the western US are on BLM land so camping for free and
prospecting went hand in hand. I found some good gold too. I found a 2 ounce gold nugget and a bunch of smaller nuggets
at a place called Rich Hill near Stanton, AZ. I made friends with some other prospectors as well as fellow "boondockers"
that I met along the way. Boondocker is a term for people who camp off the grid. Snowbird is a term for people
who migrate. I was a boondocking snowbird and I loved it. I still do. Nugget passed away a few years ago. He was my best
friend for 12 years and I cried like a baby when he died.
